The Story

Built on
7th Street.

Snaps On Seventh is a content, marketing and media company run from Melville, founded by a Melville native.

Snaps On Seventh started at rock bottom. COVID and life reset a fruitful career in film, and by December 2022, founder Aubrey Moloto was back home in Melville after more than a decade, taking street photographs to survive.

The photographs needed somewhere to live, so Instagram came next; first to spotlight the people we met on the street, then, story by story, becoming the place Melville checks to see what's happening each day. Private shoots followed. Running The Plug Melville's social media was the pivot: proof this was a business, not a hustle. The work compounded from there: Origin Art at Keyes Art Mile led to the whole Keyes content-creation account, which led to The Hilton Sandton, which then became NH Sandton, where we delivered our biggest job at that time, the year-end function for the global tech company Kyndryl.

Melville Untold launched at Jo'anna Meltbar on 1 November 2023, and after a team restructure and reset, it went live as a weekly newsletter in September 2024. That's when street photography retired for good, the newsletter now does what the street used to: it keeps us present, connected and useful.

Love Books became our first advertiser in December 2024 — a huge vote of confidence — and in April 2025, Melville's legendary estate agents, Cornel and Willem of Lew Geffen Sotheby's, became our first long-term partner. They've been with us ever since, even hopping over to the Art Mile with us.

2025 made Snaps On Seventh a community stakeholder: Friends of the Melville Koppies — media and marketing for the committee, guiding the 8km Sunday walks and the Koppies West dog hikes, then external marketing lead and the glue between Melville and UJ on the AR iron-smelter project, headed to Museum Africa for Heritage Month 2026. We launched the Melville Pocket Companion (second edition coming soon), and today, we're the official marketing partner for Melville's 130th Celebrations, a massively proud moment. In December 2025, we founded the Melville Art Mile — bringing the creatives of Melville together, a push to reclaim the neighbourhood's standing as Jozi's bohemian culture hub, a sanctuary for artists and makers.

From taking pictures to survive, to the digital media and content agency this neighbourhood counts on. "Curating Melville's Look" isn't a tagline — it's the business model: the more beautiful, intentionally busy and well-documented Melville is, the better everyone here does. Including us.
